The invention relates to a packaging machine for bag packages, single- or multi-layer film in the form of a preformed tubular web being processed. The web is removed from a supply roll by means of transport rollers and passed through between welding bars. The bars close according to the desired length, and a built-in cutter cuts off the web. Upon opening of the bars, the cut-off web piece is also opened using suction means and secured by two grippers for filling purposes: after filling, the bars close and weld down the filled portions to form a bag. The innovations are: 1. Working on a preformed tubular web. 2. Bags only welded at top and bottom, no longitudinal welding. 3. Possibility of producing any desired bag length. 4. Drop height for filling material is extremely low.
