The charging apparatus comprises a cylinder, in which a hydraulically driven stuffing ram is guided. The moulding compound is introduced into the cylinder through a feed throat and is pressed by the stuffing ram into the plasticising cylinder of the injection-moulding machine. In order that the doughy, tacky moulding compound comes into contact with the parts of the charging apparatus as little as possible, a semi-cylindrical receiving dish is mounted pivotally about a horizontal axis in the feed throat. With the aid of a pneumatic cylinder, controlled by the stuffing ram, the filled receiving dish is swivelled through about 130 DEG into the emptying position when the stuffing ram is retracted. In this position, the moulding compound can drop down into the cylinder under its own weight.
