PURPOSE:To obtain a catalyst having excellent initial performance in a catalyst wherein platinum and rhodium are deposited on an activated alumina carrier by depositing platinum on the activated alumina carrier then impregnating an aq. soln. of a water soluble carbohydrate therein to and calcining the same. CONSTITUTION:Platinum is deposited on an activated alumina carrier, whereafter an aq. soln. of a water soluble carbohydrate is impregnated therein and is calcined. Cane sugar, grape sugar, malt sugar, glycogen, starch, etc. are used for the water soluble carbohydrate. The carbohydrate burns in the adjoining state to the platinum particles and reduces platinum in this stage to activate the platinum surface, thereby yielding the catalyst having good initial performance. Rhodium is then heat treted in an oxidizing atmosphere and deposited thereby on the carrier. |
