In the case of the apparatus for the optically conductive connection of two optical waveguides, two sleeves (2, 3) designed like junction boxes are connected coaxially to each other by means of a number of flexible rod elements (1) arranged axially parallel and at equal intervals close to the circumference, so that a type of gripping cage is produced. The ends of the optical waveguides to be connected are introduced into the sleeves and the latter are twisted with respect to each other about the common axis. In the connecting region, the twisted rod elements (1) bear against the optical waveguides in the manner of a collet, centring and holding them in a frictional manner. The sleeves can be locked in this position. The junction-box-like apparatus is used for the splicing of single-core optical waveguide cables. <IMAGE>
