Plastic-coated optical fibre, a process for the production of a fibre of this type, and a device for carrying out a process of this type

A plastic-coated glass fibre is described in which one or more thin glass fibres or alternatively one or more glass fibre yarns or twisted threads are embedded in order to increase the tenacity and simultaneously to avoid microflexing in the coating. The embedded fibres increase the mechanical strength of the coated optical fibres, and the prevention of microflexing is due to the identity of the modulus of elasticity of the coated optical fibres and of the embedded fibres. A process for the production of these optical fibres and devices for carrying out the process are described.
