<p>PURPOSE:To carry out the economical operation of a coke oven, by quenching red-hot coke in a particular quenching apparatus with an inert gas, thereby recovering the heat of the coke as a hot gas, and reusing the cooled inert gas for the recovery of the sensible heat of red-hot coke in the quenching apparatus. CONSTITUTION:A gas passage in a dry quenching apparatus 1 having a horizontally movable grate 2 at the bottom, is divided with partition plates 5 into the combustion preparatory chamber 6, the combustion chamber 7, and the quenching chambers 81 and 82 along the moving direction of said grate 2. An inert gas is passed through the red-hot coke layer 18 in the quenching chambers 81, 82, and separated into the high-temperature inert gas and the medium-temperature inert gas. The medium-temperature inert gas is introduced into the combustion preparatory chamber 6 to generate the temperature gradient in the red-hot coke layer 18 on the grate 2 along the direction of the thickness. Successively, the high-temperature gas is introduced together with the gas for coke combustion into the combustion chamber 7 in front of the combustion preparatory chamber 6 to burn the red-hot coke in the combustion chamber 7. The sensible heat and the latent heat of red-hot coke can be recovered from the dry quenching apparatus 1 in the form of the high-temperature gas.</p> |
