The wood is impregnated with a polymer forming condn. material formed from the reaction of an aluminium alkoxide and one or more compounds having the formula R1CO.CH(R2)R3 R1 is H, alkyl (up to 8C atoms), aryl or aralkyl (up to 10C atoms), alkoxy (up to 8C atoms), aryloxy or aralkoxy (up to 10C atoms) or a group having the formula -CH(R4)-CO-R5. R4, R5 are H, alkyl (up to 8C atoms) or aryl or aralkyl (up to 10C atoms). - The reaction is carried out in a strongly reducing medium in nescent hydrogen and in contact with a large surface of metallic Al. The temp. is 80-300 deg.C esp. 120-200 deg.C. The wood is impregnated by urging the material in a hydrocarbons solvent, possibly in a mixt. with one or more 150 cyclic and/or a cyclic homo- and/or dicarbonic acids. |
