PURPOSE:To obtain a lubricating film having excellent durability on a head particlularly for magnetic discs without attraction of the head, by using only a solid-state lubricant without using any solvent at ordinary temp. by evaporating the lubricant by heating in the atm. pressure and sticking the same on the surface of a magnetic recording medium. CONSTITUTION:A lubricant 17 of higher fatty acids such as stearic acid, behenic acid or the like and esters thereof which is solid at ordinary temp. is heatd to the temp. higher by about >=50 deg.C than the m.p. by a heater 15 in an oil bath 16 to generate the lubricant vapor in the atm. pressure. A disc 11 prepd. by forming an underlying plating film 2 on a disc substrate 1, forming a magnetic plating film 3 thereon, and sputtering an SiO2 film 4 on the film 3 is held by a support 12 and while the disc is rotated in an arrow A direction, the disc is moved in an arrow B direction in the above-mentioned lubricant vapor, whereby a lubricating film 4 is uniformly formed on the film 4. The lubricating films 4 are thinly and uniformly formed on both surfaces of the disc 11 without using any solvent in the above-mentioned way, and the disc which can maintain the lubricity for a long period of time without sticking of magnetic heads and has good wear resistance and durability is obtd. The method is adaptable to a magnetic recording tape, etc. as well. |
