Coke preheated to a temperature of 1200-1300 DEG C by a heat carrier passed through the upper part of a chamber 1 by inlet/outlet slits 14, is first subjected to cooling by a mixture of hydrocarbon-containing gas and steam, preheated to a temperature of 90-100 DEG C and admitted by a pipe 4 covered by a hood 6, with the resultant formation of gas containing hydrogen and carbon monoxide, which is removed through a manifold 7, whereupon the coke is further cooled down to 200-250 DEG C by a flow of steam from a discharge device 8.

|
