<p>Novel antibacterial compositions which are synergistic combinations of a .beta.-lactam antibiotic and a .beta.-lactamase inhibitor in the form of 6.beta.-hydroxy-alkylpenicillanic acids and esters thereof provide pharmaceutical compositions which do not suffer from the drawback of many .beta.-lactam antibiotics which have little or no activity against certain microorganisms because of .beta.-lactamase production by the microorganism the .beta.-lactamase effectively cleaving the antibiotic to render it inactive.</p> |
