Conventionally the speedometer drive in a snowmobile is taken from the axle of the snowmobile track driving sprocket through a compact bevel gear drive attached to the end of the axle, the output of the gear drive being coupled to the speedometer instrument by a drive cable. Such bevel gear drive, which is comparatively expensive, and is subject to certain operational problems, is now dispensed with, and the drive cable is attached directly to the end of the drive sprocket axle, a speed-change gear drive being attached to the rear of the speedometer housing and driven by the drive cable.
|
