For turning of pieces of lumber being fed perpendicularly to their lengthwise direction into an adjustment or sorting mill's adjustment plate, the invention proposes, in order to achieve low structural height, a turning arrangement which contains a number of turning arms 15, each one provided with at least one support surface 16, and which can move from a first position, in which they are arranged to grasp a piece of lumber being turned from below with their support surface, to a second position for surrendering the piece of lumber that was grasped and turned in the first position, and then back to the first position to grab a new piece of lumber, wherein the turning arms 15 move between their positions along a linear track 41 while rotating at the same time.
