PURPOSE:To prepare an amino acid without using a defoaming agent, economically, by using microbial strain belonging to Corynebacterium genus, capable of producing glutamic acid, and having no or lowered foaming property. CONSTITUTION:For example, a glutamic acid-produing strain, Corynebacterium glutamicum GAUPTr-113 (FERM-P No.1874) is subjected to the NTG treatment by conventional method to obtain Corynebacterium glutamicum SPA-2 (FERM-P No.6690). The bactrial strain is inoculated in a medium for the preparation of glutamic acid, and cultured under aerobic condition to obtain glutamic acid. The productivity of the glutamic acid by the above strain is comparable to that of the parent strain, and its foamability is eliminated or remarkably reduced. Accordingly, glutamic acid can be produced without using a defoaming agent by this strain, the amount of the medium charged in the fermentor can be increased, and the process is extremely advantageous from the industrial view point. |
