Improvements made to the preparation of antibiotics. The invention relates to the new compound alpha-bromodiethyl carbonate, to new processes for preparing it, to its use for preparing 1-ethylcarbonyloxyethyl esters of penicillins and cephalosporins and to improvements made to the processes for preparing these esters. The invention finds its main application in the manufacture of antibiotics.
