A closed-loop speed control system for controlling the speed of a moving object at a constat speed under varying loading condition comprises an accelerating means for coupling the motive power of a prime mover; a tachogenerator means for generating pulses at a frequency proportional to the speed of the moving object, a counter means for measuring the interval between sucessive pulses, a digital translating means coupled to said counter means for translating each measured interval, and means for respectively converting said first and second output signals into first and second speed control pulses of said duration for application to said accelerating means and said decelerating means, respectively.
