PURPOSE:To prevent the collapse in the arrangement of a strand assemblage owing to external stress, the increase in transmission loss and the deterioration in low temp. characteristics, by filling a gel-like material having no fluidity in a cross-linked state and having >=80 penetration between a protective sheath and an optical fiber strand assemblage. CONSTITUTION:An optical fiber strand assemblage 3 twisted with plural optical fiber strand (optical fibers applied externally with primary coverings or further applied externally with buffer layers) 2 is provided on the outside circumference of a central tensile body 1. The assemblage 3 is stored in a protective sheath 4 consisting of a plastic pipe enclosing loosely the outside circumference of said assemblage. A gel-like material 6 having no fluidity in a cross-linked state and >=80 penetration (ASTM 1321) is filled between the sheath 4 and the assemblage 3. If the penetration of the material 6 measured in accordance with ASTMD 1321 is <80, the assemblage 3 cannot move in the sheath 4 and the deterioration in a bending characteristic arises in the same way as in the case of using silicone rubber. |
