Muscle power meter for medical use - uses measuring units mounted in frame to measure force exerted by patients leg, arm, back and abdominal muscles

The measuring unit consists of a block of aluminium or other suitable material, with parallel end surfaces. The block is pierced from side to side by a slot, except that a thin wall attached to the upper and lower surface of the slot crosses the slot in the middle of the block. Set into the centre of the wall is a strain gauge which measures only the vertical forces on the block. The unit can be mounted in a 'sledge' device in which the patient sits and presses his feet against fixed end stops. The force exerted by his leg muscles is measured by the unit which is fixed behind the seat. The seat also has arms coupled to another measuring unit, and these can be used to measure the force exerted by the patient's arms. Another appts. into which the units can be mounted measures the force exerted by the back and stomach muscles.
