Process comprises hydrolysis catalysed by acid of 5-amino-6-methoxy-3,4' -bipyridine. This is followed by dissolving in water of the resulting pyridinone derivative, and treatment with methano sulphonic acid in excess to pH 2.0. - Pptn. by addn. of acetone to the filtered and conc. soln., is then followed by sepn. by filtration.
