PURPOSE:To make a hardening layer formable ever so easy, by forming the hardening layer having specific hardness through high-frequency quenching on a rolling surface on the one hand and that of having specific hardness through a laser hardening process on a non-rolling surface in case of a bearing ring on the other hand, respectively, while varying the hardness of each hardening layer to some extent. CONSTITUTION:In the case where this method is practically used in an outer ring of a taper roller bearing, or an example of a bearing ring in case of the roller bearing, a hardening layer having the hardness (HRC58-64) required for securing the span of specified rolling life by means of high-frequency quenching is formed on an inner circumferential rolling surface 2, while another hardening layer having the hardness (HRC40-55) required for securing the specified strength (capable of withstanding a fitting surface pressure to a bearing housing and causing no plastic deformation with bearing load) is made up in a helical- stripe form by way of example. If doing like this, such a hardening layer that has the specified span of life and strength can be simply formed up with certainty. |
