To avoid excessive wear and built-up of material the cylindrical press has a network of aligned and spaced pins on the roller periphery. A groove pattern arranged between the protruding pins varies in width. This promotes a free flow of the granules and thus reduces wear on the pins. The groove pattern line is vertical to the roll axis. The improved pattern lasts 2-3 times as long as a conventional press-unit. The pins alternatively may have an oval or square cross-section. Lateral flanged rims may be fitted to keep the granular material enclosed.
