Blooms, esp. of steel are cooled by applying a coolant liq. pref. under slight pressure as a continuous layer on at least part of the surface of the bloom during cooling, at a rate of 6-90 l/kg of metal. - Appts. comprises support rollers for the bloom being cooled at least one of which has at least one internal cavity, and is pierced with orifices connecting the cavity with the outer surfaces. The roller cavity is then feed with cooling which is passed out through the orifices. - Cooling is accelerated and is provided uniformly hence the well of liquid in the bloom is reduced in length.(0/0)
