PURPOSE:To inspect the surface shape of rolls for guiding a billet with a measuring element attached to an inspection device and to prevent the generation of flaws on the surface of the billet by moving the inspection device along the guide rail in the curved roll cavity of a continuous casting device. CONSTITUTION:A continuous casting billet enters the inside of the roll cavity 1 consisting of support roll groups, and while it passes therein, the billet is cooled by sprayed water. The billet is fed by the smooth rotation of rolls 2, 3 on the inside and outside while the billet passes the inside of the cavity 1, and if there is any roll that fails to rotate normally, the rubbing flaw is generated by friction on the surface of the billet and the roll itself is deformed of its shape. An inspection device 4 provided with a detector 24 having a measuring element 31 is passed in the cavity 1 by means of a wire rope 5 in order to discover such deformation of the roll. The roll having a defective shape is quickly and exactly inspected by the device 4, and the revolutions of the rolls are controlled to normal revolutions, whereby the generation of flaws on the surface of the continuous casting billet is prevented. |
