PURPOSE:To suppress the generation of fish tails during rolling by lightly rolling the transverse central parts at the front and rear ends of a material by press rolls at a required rolling reduction to form the projections to the front and rear ends of the material in the stage of cross reduction pressing. CONSTITUTION:The press rolls 4, 5 for pressing the top and bottom surfaces in the transverse central part of the material 1 are provided to the intermediate parts of press dies 2, 3 or pressing both side faces in the transverse direction of the material 1 to execute the cross reduction pressing. The transverse central parts at the front and rear ends of the material 1 are lightly rolled by the rolls 4, 5 to form the projections 8, 9 to the rolled parts 6, in the stage of subjecting the material 1 to cross reduction pressing. The fish tails generated by the projections 8, 9 and the fish tails by thick-walled parts 7 are adjusted to approximately the same length in the stage of rolling in a rolling line. The generation of the fish tails is thereby decreased. |
