The invention relates to an apparatus for the continuous winding of threads or the like onto bobbins which are arranged axially in line with one another and next to one another, with a traversing device, assigned to the bobbins, for guiding the thread to and fro during the winding operation in a direction parallel to the bobbin axis, furthermore with a winding-on device, assigned to the bobbins, which is arranged approximately in the plane of a bobbin end face and which grasps the thread for the purpose of winding and imparts to the latter a rotational speed which is in a specific ratio to the rotational speed of the empty bobbin. The invention is characterised in that the winding apparatus has an essentially ring-like body (ring), the axis of which is in line with the axis of the empty bobbin, and furthermore a band which loops round part of the circumference of the ring and which at the same time, bearing on the circumferential surface, rotates together with the ring.
