A liquid crystal composition for multiplexed twisted nematic displays comprises:
(a) From 2 to 4 cyanobiphenyl compounds:

R is selected from the group consisting of straight chain alkyl groups having 2 to 10 carbon atoms and the propoxy radical, at least one of said compounds having an alkyl group having 2 to 7 carbon atoms and at least one of said compounds having an alkyl group with 7 to 10 carbon atoms,
(b) at least one cyclohexane carboxylate ester:
<CHEM>
R<1> a straight chain alkyl group having 2 or 3 carbon atoms, R<2>is a straight chain alkoxy group having 3 to 6 carbon atoms, and the saturated ring has a trans conformation; and
(c) at least one diester:

R<3> is a straight chain alkyl group having 1 to 5 carbon atoms,
R<4> is a straight chain alkyl group having 4 or 5 carbon atoms,
X is H or Cl and
<CHEM>
is either aromatic or saturated with a trans conformation. |
