1,185,401. Selective printing. H. GERMER. 11 March, 1967 [30 March, 1966], No. 1457/67. Heading B6F. Characters in different colours are printed on to a recording medium by projecting a beam of radiation in the form of the characters on to a ribbon which comprises a thin layer of heatabsorbing material with poor heat-conduction characteristics and a layer of thermoplastic inks of different colours and with melting points lower than the thin layer so that the radiation is received by the thin layer and the heat is conducted to the ink layer which melts or softens in correspondence to the characters and is transferred to the recording medium. The thin layer may be black and non-melting and may be secured to a supporting layer. Red and black are the specified colours for the ink. |
