A method of measuring magnetic forces produced in a test specimen, when this is subjected to a predetermined external magnetic field. If the specimen is composed of a weakly magnetic material, however, a very sensitive detector must be used. According to the invention two magnetic fields, which partially balance one another out, are produced by two current-carrying coils L1, L2. The test specimen is inserted into a measuring area in the one magnetic field, following which the change thereby produced in the resulting magnetic field strength is measured at a measuring point where the field strength prior to insertion of the test specimen was very low. This makes it easier to measure even very small magnetic forces. <IMAGE>
