A method for joining the bevelled or mitred ends of two mouldings of a picture frame is described, in which a precisely arranged hole is drilled in the end face of each moulding and a dowel, which serves for the correct relative positioning of the faces, is arranged in the holes before the end faces are glued together. A device which facilitates the correct positioning of the dowel holes possesses a frame-moulding guide element (2) which is slidingly fixed in a groove (20) formed in a horizontal base plate (1). A guide bush (6) for a drill (not shown) is arranged on a vertically displaceable guide (5). The two edges of the guide element (2) which are closest to the guide (5) are arranged at an angle of 90 DEG relative to one another and at an angle of 45 DEG to the axis of the bush (6). When in use, one frame moulding is firmly clamped to the edge of the guide element (2), the guide and sliding elements being suitably positioned, and the end face of the moulding is drilled through the bush (6). The other of the mouldings to be joined is firmly clamped to the other edge of the guide element (2) and drilled in similar fashion. <IMAGE>
