The device for metering in the outlet of a container or silo in which loose material, for example cement, whitewash or plaster, is stored, has a metering roller (2) which is fitted with an electric motor drive (5) for normal operation. If a disturbance or emergency occurs as a result of power failure, a further drive, preferably in the form of a pneumatic cylinder (10) comes into action, which ensures rotation of the roller slide valve (2) into the closed position in order thus to prevent an uncontrolled outlet from the container or silo. The further drive (10) is connected to the shaft (4) of the metering roller (2) such that the normal drive by the electric motor (2) is not impeded. The normal drive by the electric motor (5) is in turn applied or designed such that the closing in the event of a disturbance or emergency is not prevented by the further drive (10). <IMAGE>
