In order to ensure a problem-free closure of a sanitary container (10), which is intended, for example, to receive nappies, tampons or the like and has a lid (12) which comprises preferably a pivotable flap (22) having an introductory chute (18), while simultaneously ensuring that uncontrolled opening cannot take place, the container (10) has, on two opposite sides (52), guides (34) in which portions (32) of the lid (12) can be introduced and displaced. When the container is closed, one arresting elements (44, 46) starting from the inner surface of the lid then projects into the container.
