Axial fan, especially for a cooler of a water-cooled internal combustion engine

An axial fan is described, especially for the cooler of a water-cooled internal combustion engine for commercial vehicles, which comprises a hub with fan blades and an air duct device enclosing this, which widens towards the outlet area. The widening begins in the area of the intake edge of the fan blades and the external contour of the fan blades is adapted to match the internal contour of the air duct device. The air duct device is at the same time designed as a fixed fan body, inside which the fan blades rotate. In another embodiment the air duct device forms part of the fan wheel comprising the hub and the fan blades and is connected fixedly to the ends of the fan blades as a ducting ring. A further variant provides for the attachment of an annular disc to the hub in the area of the outlet edge of the fan blades, the diameter of which disc is at least 30% greater than the hub diameter. All these measures contribute to a reduction in the noise level of the axial fan.
