When lowering the platform, carried by floats, for example pontoons, its oscillating vertical motion, following the swell of the sea, is blocked at a low point; the resulting forces are transferred to carrying devices, which are connected to the platform and to the substructure. By ballasting the floats and at the same time adjusting the carrying devices, the platform is then lowered further and finally, while continuing lowering, is set down onto the substructure by means of the carrying devices against the buoyancy of the floats. In this way, the free motion of the platform at the beginning of the setting-down operation is transferred over a time span of a damped motion controllably, since pre-stressed against the water pressure, to the calm after setting down, without acceleration forces occurring. Vertically running tension members (22) and cylinder-piston units (18) arranged parallel to the said members are provided as carrying devices. The tension members (22) are anchored at their upper ends to the platform (1) and are supported at their lower ends against the substructure (6), with the cylinder-piston units (18) interposed. <IMAGE>
