The invention relates to a foam casing for silencing of an air pump, capable of being driven by an electric motor, of a central locking system for motor vehicles, with electrical and pneumatic connection lines passing through the foam casing. Good silencing and mechanical protection are obtained by encasing the complete, finished pump provided with connection lines in foam. In the subject-matter of the invention, the above-mentioned characteristics are improved compared to previous two-part designs and there is an associated cost saving. The cost saving derives in particular from the elimination of a complex forming die, such as is necessary in the case of two-part casing designs. Application of the subject-matter of the invention extends to noise-generating components in general, whether in auxiliary units in motor vehicles or in domestic appliances, in order, for example, to reduce fluid flow noise.
