The invention relates to a lifting device which has a tined coulter (1). The thin (bar-shaped) lifting tines (3) are each followed by a rearwardly raised beet guide bar (4) freely movable at the upper end. A lifting wheel (5) driven to convey rearwards rotates above each beet guide bar (4). The pair of lifting wheels enclose a V-shaped space narrowing rearwards in the direction of travel (F) and downwards in the direction of height. At least in the region between lifting tines (3) and lifting wheel (5) is arranged a respective guide device (7/7') which has at least one guide bar/trap bar (7/14) and which prevents the lifted-out beet from falling laterally out of the conveying stage in front of the pair of lifting wheels (5). <IMAGE>
