A method to produce identity cards with photograph, wherein picture information and, if appropriate, written information are transferred from a document onto a coated thin plastic film which is then placed between a transparent covering layer and a basic layer, which is thick compared to the plastic film, both layers being made of plastic, and is welded to these layers over the surface. In a known method, the information from the document is transferred to a plastic film coated with a photosensitive material by optical means. The apparatus to carry out this method is technically complicated and expensive. The underlying object of the invention is to provide a simple and inexpensive method, with which non-forgeable identity cards with photograph can be produced. The object is achieved according to the invention in that the coating of the plastic film is undertaken by applying a coloured layer, and in that the information is transferred using an engraving device by scanning the document with an electrooptical receiver and engraving it into the coloured layer. <IMAGE> |
