PURPOSE:To suppress the deterioration in response speed and coloring density at long-term use and to extend the life of a fully solid-state electrochromic (EC) element, by using a porous substrate for the substrate of said element. CONSTITUTION:Porous glass having fine pores (preferably about 50-2,000Angstrom diameter) through which gaseous hydrogen and oxygen can pass (e.g., Knudsen diffusion plate produced by Asahi Glass Co., Ltd.) is used as a substrate. More specifically, the 1st electrode 2 of indium oxide, etc., the 1st EC layer 3 of tungsten dioxide, etc., an insulation layer 4 of zirconium dioxide, etc., the 2nd EC layer 5 of iridium hydroxide, etc. and the 2nd electrode 6 of indium oxide, etc. are successively laminated on the porous substrate 1, whereby an EC element is formed. |
