PURPOSE:To enable immediate alteration of an ignition timing, by a method wherein, when an ignition timing subsequent to correction made based on ignition timing correcting amount is forced into coincidence with the limit value of the lag angle side, the ignition timing correcting amount is controlled to a difference between the basic ignition timing and the limit value. CONSTITUTION:In steps 80-82, an ignition timing theta calculated at step 76 is specified to more than the lower limit value beta(=thetamin) thereof, and when an ignition advance angle theta is fixed to the lower limit value beta, a process takes place for forcing an ignition correcting coefficient thetaK into coincidence with a value beta-thetaBSE. Thus, when operating condition varies in the direction of a light load from a state, in which an ignition timing is fixed to the limit value of the lag angle side, and the basic advance angle changes in the direction of the advance angle, the ignition timing is immediately changed in the direction of the advance angle. |
