PURPOSE:To enable to perform lap ignition through utilization of an existing igniter, by controlling charge and discharge of a capacitor according to the collector potential of the power transistor of a lap discharge type igniter. CONSTITUTION:With a power transistor 20a turned ON, a transistor 36 is turned OFF, and a transistor 42 is turned ON through a waveform shaping circuit 50 and a resistance 41. In which case, a current flows through a primary winding 31b of a pulse transformer 31. With the transistor 20a turned OFF at an ignition timing, the transistor 36 is turned ON, and the transistor 42 is turned OFF through the waveform shaping circuit 50. This forces a thyristor 4 into an electrical connection stage, forms a discharge circuit, and applies a current, flowing from a capacitor 3, to a primary winding 6a of an ignition coil 6 to generate a high lap voltage at a secondary winding. This permits generation of lap discharge through utilization of an existing power transistor. |
