Pallet loads are run onto packing film from the side or above which is reeled off from stock rollers either side of a roll track so that the film stays taut as it wraps round the three sides of the load. To close the fourth side, the film parts are joined in the centre between two sets of jaws on swivel arms which close in sequence so that the film is held taut round the load, more film paid out from stock, then clamped at the other corner of the load and finally welds produced along close spaced lines. The film is then slit between these lines in an area where the film is slack and thus can be easily cut. The load is held securely, no heat treatment is involved so food can be handled in this way. |
