摘要 PURPOSE:To reduce the time required for recognition overall, by executing the character recognition with a low resolution normally and switching it to the character recognition with a high resolution when characters cannot be recognized with a low resolution and complicated patterns such as Kanji (Chinese character) are recognized. CONSTITUTION:A character is scanned with a high resolution by a scanner 10 and is converted photoelectrically to obtain a signal DT, and this signal DT is inputted to a reduction processing circuit 11. The reduction rate is controlled by an output CC of a controller 13 to reduce the signal DT, and the resolution is lowered to recognize the character by a recognizing circuit 12. When the character cannot be recognized because of a complicated pattern such as Kanji, a reject signal RJ is sent to the controller 13, and the reduction rate is lowered to raise the resolution or stop the reduction, and the signal DT is sent to the recognizing circuit as it is. The reduction signal is controlled by a keyboard 14 as required. The scanner 10 may be used for a low resolution, and the reduction processing circuit may be substituted with a forecasting restoration circuit. Thus, unnecesary high-resolution processings are omitted to shorten the time required for the recognition processing as the whole.
