PURPOSE:To eliminate the number of components and to improve the reliability and noise resistance, by leading an output of a photo detector required for the carrying control of a medium into a scanning area, in a device scanning the information of the paper medium to apply photoelectric conversion, so as to eliminate the need for a carriage control circuit. CONSTITUTION:A light from a lamp 6 lighting a paper 3 is guided through optical fibers 7A-7C to light transmission ends 4a-4c of a paper detecting section, and the light received on receiving ends 4a'-4c' provided oppositely is led in an image forming objective area of a photoelectric converting element 1. When the paer sheet 3 is carried and reaches a position interrupting the photo detecting ends 4a', 4b', only the photo detecting end 4c' in the image forming objective area of the photoelectric converting element 1 is brightened and an output is obtained. The discrimination is performed at each photo detecting section with a strobe pulse generated corresponding to the element number of the photoelectric converting element in advance. Thus, the circuit for carriage control is not required. |
