A dust-free lead stabilizer for PVC is prepared by mixing a basic lead salt of an inorganic acid with a lubricating stabilizer and a PVC plasticizer or extender heating below the melting point of the lubricating stabilizer until gelation occurs and breaking the product into lumps. The lead salt may be a basic sulphate, phosphite, or carbonate. Suitable liquid PVC plasticizers or extenders are paraffin oil, phthalate esters, or chlorinated hydrocarbons. As gelling agents are used soaps of Ca, Ba, Sr, Mg, Zn, Li, Cd, Al or Pb, including basic lead soaps which may be formed in situ e.g. from white lead and stearic acid. A wax may also be added.
