The gripper rails of the tool changing mechanism for a transfer press are formed in two sections joined together in a way which makes them readily detachable. One part of the gripper rail (1) has a sleeve with an internal thread (16) which receives an externally threaded bush (6). The latter can be rotated by a motor (2) through a splined shaft (3). The bush has a seconded threaded portion (27) at its outer end. This thread is of the same pitch, but of smaller dia. than the first threaded portion. When the bush is rotated, it engages an internal thread (17) in the second part (26) of the gripper rail and joins the two parts together. PS
