A blank comprising a metal substrate and a covering formed from a material for bearing is cut out; a series of slits 23 are formed in a first zone of the blank which is to become a neck portion 25; the first zone is folded until in a position where it is perpendicular to the rest of the blank and then the blank is roll-bent into a semi-cylindrical shape; the first zone can be folded before the roll-bending operation or alternatively the blank can be roll-bent before folding, but in either case the slits have to be formed before one of these operations; the resulting bearing comprises a journal portion 24 and a neck portion forming a stop (thrust) surface, this neck portion being solidly attached to the journal portion 24 and consisting of a series of separate tabs 26. <IMAGE> |
