The invention concerns a method and devices for shutting off the primary circuit of pressurised-water reactors, allowing implementation by remote operations in such a way as to minimise the irradiation danger to the personnel. The cover (plug) comprises articulated elements 921 to 926 which fold up in a prismatic configuration, a motorised jack 930 with its arms 928 serving to open the cover (plug), members 923 reinforcing its rigidity when the cover (plug) is deployed, clamping rams 937 coming to flatten the joints on the corresponding seat of the portion to be shut off, joints and a leaktight membrane. This cover (plug) is manoeuvred with the aid of prepositioned pulley-blocks. Amongst the most useful applications of the invention can be cited the isolation of the water chests of steam generators. <IMAGE>
