The heating system for a press moulding process involves use of a mould made of an electrically conductive matl. clamped between a pair of platens of which one incorporates a layer of electrically excited elements for inducing the secondary field of an induction heating circuit within the body of the mould itself. The face of each platen is covered with a layer of electrically and thermally insulating matl.protected in turn from the mould surface by a thin aluminium plate.- Suitable for use in single or double daylight moulds. More efficient than heat transfer by induction heating of a platen face adjacent to the mould body: allows conventional single daylight mould with induction heating in each platen to be modified to accept two moulds simultaneously, with each heater serving a different mould. By varying the physical spacing of and/or power distribution to selected poles in laminar arrays of poles in the primary induction circuit, the heat distribution induced in the mould body may be varied, e.g. to compensate for heat loss gradients or to induce differential heating to vary the degree of cure produced in matl. in different parts of the mould cavity
