The invention relates to means for assembling a shelf 3 to a vertical upright, constituting at the same time a stiffener device for the article of furniture thus constituted. These means are formed by a sole plate 4 provided with a pin which is fastened by a screw 6 vertically applied on the inner face of a vertical panel. The pin 5 interacts with the shelf 3, which comprises a cutout 3a for straddling the sole plate 4. Covers 8 are clipped over the projecting parts of the sole plate.
