PURPOSE:To align the transverse centerlines of coil materials with high accuracy by detecting the transverse edges at the ends of the respective coil materials while traveling in the direction crossing the line prior to welding, calculating and estimating the position deviation to the centerline of the line and correcting and moving one of the coil materials according to said deviation. CONSTITUTION:Preceding and succeeding coils 1, 2 which are fed to a line are connected to each other by welding. Photoelectric detectors 6, 6' are run in the direction crossing the line prior to said welding to detect the transverse edges P1l, P1t, P2l, P2t at the ends of the coil materials 1, 2. The detected values are inputted to a calculator 9 from encoders 7, 7'. The calculator 9 calculates and estimates the position deviations of the materials 1, 2 up to the centerline thereof and performs feedback control by as much as the position deviations of both materials 1, 2, by which the oil from a hydraulic source 10 is supplied with a solenoid operated selector valve 14 to a hydraulic cylinder 12 to move the support basing 14 of a clamping device 3 on a stationary side, thus aligning the centerlines. |
