In a method for producing continuous copy sets by means of an optical copying device, a bar code which contains the information required to control the copying device is applied to each copy as it passes through the copying device. This information is input by means of a keyboard (25) which is provided on the copying device and controls a recording device (27, 28) for the bar code and is evaluated by means of reading devices (30) arranged on the transport path of the copies. In this way, a simple control of all the functions required for producing copy sets is possible, it being possible for copies which have got lost due to equipment failure to be replaced automatically and correctly ordered. The bar code can be designed as an optical or magnetic code and can contain additional information on the copying mode, such as simplex or duplex mode and the desired enlargement scale. If an optical bar code is used, the code can be exposed together with the image of the copy on the recording medium (2) of the optical copying device. <IMAGE>
