Standard microcomputers are to be used for executing instructions which do not belong to their instruction set. For this purpose, a plurality of microcomputers (MC) are arranged in parallel with one another. These execute the instruction, which has been split into individual steps, independently of one another. For this purpose, the microcomputers contain programs allocated to the individual steps. Since the individual steps required for executing the instruction are at least partially executed simultaneously by the microcomputers, it is possible to execute instructions very rapidly in spite of the use of standard chips. <IMAGE>
